The UFC year of the upset & is assuming Mackhachev win still implied?

It’s been thrilling to watch UFC play out recently. Absolutely amazing to my predicting & analysing growing niche.
I’ve honestly even laughed when I read the news that the UFC plans on cutting down on Dagestanis.
What a time to follow this promotion and what its athletes do outside of it.
We had the surprisingly wild turn of events at the White House & announced return of Conor McGregor fighting Max Holloway which is good enough to stay buzzed but so much is happening and despite the negativity it might only present a change in some parts of the game.
Of course any fight you can see has something interesting if you love the sport enough but it’s a whole different level when you’re in the midst of fan called year of the upset with an elite Dagestani champion set to fight in August and a bunch of bullshit happening before and into that revolving Dagestanis, Georgians - members of Caucus region.
Considering how grappling lovers are a minority in the world of UFC, I haven’t heard anyone really highlight how dare I say weird it was to see Usman Nurmagomedov lose to Merab Dvalishvili.
It almost felt off considering how the Dagestanis reputation is as close you can get to Khabib the closer you are to an implied victory and Usman is Khabibs cousin after all.
It was a small reminder how you never really know in this sport. That’s the whole point of these times. We can’t seem to guess the outcomes of these major fights.
If Shara Bullet lost to Pereira it might’ve been even more clear that it’s an odd year for Dagestanis but with that particular victory it might be easier to the superstitious to accept that Islam will probably win because he’s fucking Islam.
So,
the question about predicting what will happen with Islam and Ian was in my mind and I asked around.
To be honest the only thing I’ve heard back is how Ian Garry is tall and will definitely be a good challenge just like a lot of them are.
So, will the elite Dagestani have himself a loss? The champion we often say is better than Khabib?
Nobody expected Merab to lose his 14th win streak,
for Ilia to lose his against Gaethje ( which was a wild take to me),
luck wasn’t even on Pereiras side in that fight with Gane
and what seems to be the cherry on top is Strickland so obviously winning the fight with Chimaev.
We haven’t even covered all examples, just the casuals ones.
And this one is dedicated to UFC so we won’t get into other promotions but it’s been a wild few moments there and it will surely be a spectacular experience to watch that one play out.
For Holloway & McGregor we might be confident enough to say that Max might take that victory. If he gets his head right. It’s his first fight at 170 with a charged up McGregor ready to go.
