Getting Serious with ‘Oceans’ | Saria for highlight:ED

HIGHLIGHT:ED Is a segment on officialbauns where we get to highlight an artist, project, event, a story and get a bit more into its lore, or at least its structure.

The hosting for the questions, the posting & similar is in rotation & currently at hands of Saria, so we suggested a new format in which the artist, for example, can write to you as if it was a letter.. It’s not something we often see, and it’s kind of fitting since “Oceans” definitely needs to be highlighted, who better than to kick it off than it’s producer.

Dear reader, to be honest I’m able to listen & talk about production & anything music related - for long times.

Due to it’s changes with terms of use across multiple most often used distributing platforms, AI musicians, rise of wannabe influencers trying it with music, etc I’ve thought I was another fool who’s making music, and kind of kept it to myself which is fine but I guess after some projects you create you notice it’s not just bullshit, it might actually carry something unique, solid, beautiful, good.

I thought it was almost impossible to create a show of one’s “soul frequency” and still make it commercial until I tried to genuinely do that. As silly as that might sound, but yeah there’s several projects with this energy which will most likely be released.

I believe I’ve merely reached a starting point with producing, but I’ve been kind of burnt out lately for God knows what time, over the same issue - feeling like unless I also release projects like “oceans” that I shouldn’t even go further.

Of course it would be fun to make pop hits but as I’ve said, I always feel like it’s pointless unless it’s balanced with something fully serious & an homage to the actual riches of this world - nature, love, family, health..

Ok so, production wise,

“Oceans” is one of my calmest tracks, it is a tribute to my base, my core values, faith, wanderlust as well as a reminder that despite existance being beautiful which we can see in nature, love, family - there’s an overlaying seriousness & work of balancing dualities taking place.

I use Ableton & I’m still obsessed over not using many plug ins, if any if possible. I know that I’d benefit from templates within some, but it felt natural to kick things off with the tribal sounding drums and achieve my desired emotion from there.

I have to admit, making music for a longer rather than shorter time made everything kind of easier. The track itself might not sound perfect because I haven’t sent it to professional mix & mastering but since this is a “unique” label I knew it was right to showcase my state of that in order to continue and portray the growth as well.

My goal isn’t to be a performing artist - my goal is to rather work with performing artists or their creatives - handling arrangement & wordplay/songwriting.

I had luck with vocals this time because the track was originally supposed to be a full, lyrical piece with the vocalist but it ended up working better exactly how it is now. From a demo session to cutting up what I like from it we got to here. We might do an extended vocal version and I might do an extended version one day because I’ve had a few too many people ask why the tracks aren’t longer anyway.

Longer or shorter tracks?

  • 0%long

  • 0%short

  • 0%tbh whatever

Amazing of you to check out Highlight:ed but you’re extremely early with us if you’re tuning in in 2026. Follow the BNS IG to stay updated first with the written pieces, projects & media from us.

Love,

BN$.
